Alberta Blue Cross E-Billing - April 15th, 2009

After testing with Denturist Office Manager (DOM), Alberta Blue Cross has announced that they will be accepting electronic claims for denturists starting April 15th, 2009. This also means Alberta Blue Cross will be adopting the Denturist Association of Canada national fee code standard. This will not affect the fee amounts you currently charge for services. However the actual codes will be different. Rest assured that your DOM system will handle the new codes seamlessly.

To get ready to file claims electronically, review the following steps thoroughly:

Become a member of the Denturist Association of Alberta. Download the membership Application here: DAA Form Mail $300 to Denturist Association of Alberta: #2 - 4920 45th Avenue, Sylvan Lake, AB T4S 1J9

Once a member of the Denturist Association of Alberta, and therefore also a member of the Denturist Association of Canada (DAC), you may subscribe to the Denturist Association of Canada’s DACnet™ for $367.50 initially and $157.50 subsequent years. Download the subscription form here: DACnet Subsciption Form

DAC will then assign you a unique electronic billing ID and office number.

Ensure you have a 56K Datafax modem installed on your computer. Electronic Claims for Alberta are submitted over a regular phone line (not internet) which will need to be plugged into your computer. In order maximize compatibility of sending and receiving information, Alberta Blue Cross is very strict on the type of modem used to send claims. They recommend only the following modem: U.S. Robotics 5686E 56K Faxmodem, External, Serial, 56Kbps Data/Fax Modem.

This modem requires that your computer has a serial port.

You can purchase this modem from your local computer shop or online at: U.S. Robotics 5686E 56K Faxmodem, External, Serial

You must also have the cord to plug into your computer, which is sold separately: cord for external modem U.S. Robotics 5686E 56K Faxmodem

If your computer does not have a serial port (and many do not) we can try your existing 56K Faxmodem if you have one, or you can order the following USB external modem: U.S. Robotics 5637 56K USB Modem, External, USB, 56Kbps Data/Fax Modem

Although Alberta Blue Cross does not recommend this modem we have used it successfully in tests from our office. You can purchase it from your local computer shop or online at: U.S. Robotics 5637 56K USB Modem, External, USB

Participators in electronic billing are required to have a PIPEDA compliant backup system. PIPEDA is the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Disclosure Act. DOM can encrypt your data and store it offsite on a specially designed, double redundant storage facility for $7 per month. A safe, secure and fully compliant backup every time you close the DOM system.

Finally, once you have your assigned DACnet unique number & office number and your 56K Datafax modem then call your DOM support team at 1.800.495.8771 and we will install and test the necessary features for electronic billing.
